Hima Das is an Indian sprinter from the state of Assam, nicknamed the Dhing Express by the media. She became the first Indian to win a Gold in a track event 400 metres at the IAAF World U20 Championships.
She took up serious racing only last year; earlier there was utter lack of facilities and training equipment. Her talent was first spotted by her coach Nipon Das during an inter-district meet in 2016.
Her father is a rice farmer in Dhing village; and is the youngest of the six siblings. Due to the absence of a running track, she trained in the field her father worked in, and muddy football grounds. Her parents were reluctant to let her go to another city to train under her current coach due to societal reservations but later agreed.
