Yet another medal was added to the bag for India as Praveen Chithravel takes India’s medal tally to 12-India’s highest ever at the Youth Olympic Games.
Praveen Chithravel who was competing in the triple-jump event finished third behind Cuba’s Alejandro Diaz (17.14m and 17.04) and Nigeria’s Emmeanuel Oritsemeyiwa (16.34m and 15.51 m) to clinch the Bronze medal.
This was India’s second medal in athletics after Suraj Panwar clinched a silver in the Men’s 5000m race walk event.
In a post-match interview, Chithravel expressed his happiness and said that he didn’t expect to win the bronze medal and it makes him ‘really happy’ to achieve the feat. He also lauded India’s efforts at the senior level in Asian Games and Commonwealth Games which he believed was crucial for the development of the game in the country.
As compared to two medals last time, India has managed to break-through into double figures for the first time in its history at the Youth Olympic Games.
Jeremy Lalrinnunga is the first boy and Manu Bhaker the first girl to win gold medal for India at the Youth-Olympic Games.
