This was India’s second medal in athletics after Suraj Panwar clinched a silver in the Men’s 5000m race walk event.
In a post-match interview, Chithravel expressed his happiness and said that he didn’t expect to win the bronze medal and it makes him ‘really happy’ to achieve the feat. He also lauded India’s efforts at the senior level in Asian Games and Commonwealth Games which he believed was crucial for the development of the game in the country.

As compared to two medals last time, India has managed to break-through into double figures for the first time in its history at the Youth Olympic Games.
